I was so lucky to work with Gordon. He was an insightful scientist, extremely fair and supportive to everyone he mentored and a friend. Such was his sociability that it made working in his lab a pleasure. They were good times. Gordon not only had green fingers in the lab, he was also a successful gardener. We both enjoyed pottering around in our gardens and I was hoping to carry on exchanging tips on horticulture well into his and eventually my retirement. Sadly it is not to be.
